VisitCalifornia to Roll Out Driver's Licenses and State IDs in Apple and Google Wallets
Aug 15, 2024, 06:33 PM
Apple and Google have announced that California residents will soon be able to add their driver's licenses and state IDs to Apple Wallet and Google Wallet. This digital ID initiative will allow Californians to present their identification using their iPhones or Apple Watches at select TSA security checkpoints and businesses. The rollout is expected to begin in the coming weeks, providing a secure and convenient option for mobile identification. California Governor Gavin Newsom confirmed the development, highlighting the state's ongoing efforts to modernize identification processes. Approximately 500,000 Californians have already participated in a pilot program by the Department of Motor Vehicles, which offers 1.5 million free sign-ups for digital driver's licenses and state IDs.
