Governor Gavin Newsom and Democratic lawmakers in California have reached a $297.9 billion budget agreement that includes delaying a planned minimum wage increase for healthcare workers. The agreement aims to address a $46.8 billion budget deficit by making $16 billion in cuts, declaring a statewide fiscal emergency, and utilizing the state's rainy-day reserves. The minimum wage increase for approximately 426,000 healthcare workers will be postponed to either October 15, 2024, or January 2025, depending on the state's financial situation.
