VisitCalcutta High Court Dismisses PIL Against BJP's 12-Hour Bandh in West Bengal
Aug 28, 2024, 07:14 AM
The Calcutta High Court has dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the legality of a 12-hour bandh called by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in West Bengal. The court's decision, delivered by Chief Justice T S Sivagnanam and Justice Hiranmoy Bhattachayya, rejected the petition on the grounds that it was filed by a petitioner who has been barred from submitting PILs due to previous false claims. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) had announced plans to approach the Calcutta High Court to contest the bandh, but the state government clarified that no bandh would be observed. The BJP's bandh was scheduled for August 28, 2024.
