VisitCadbury Maker Mondelez Fined €337.5M by EU for Cross-Border Trade Restrictions
May 23, 2024, 09:24 AM
Mondelez International, the maker of popular brands such as Oreo, Toblerone, and Cadbury, has been fined €337.5 million ($365.72 million) by EU antitrust regulators for impeding cross-border trade within the European Union. The fine addresses the company's anti-competitive practices from 2012 to 2019, which limited the territories in which wholesale customers could resell their products, and from 2006 to 2020, which prevented distributors from responding to sales requests in other EU countries. These actions allowed Mondelez to charge higher prices for its products, adversely affecting European consumers. The EU Commission emphasized that trade over borders within the Single Market can lower prices and increase product selection for consumers.
