VisitBritish Soldier Stabbed 70 Times Near Kent Barracks, Suspect Arrested
Jul 24, 2024, 05:15 AM
A British soldier is in critical condition after being stabbed 70 times outside Brompton Army Barracks in Gillingham, Kent. The attack occurred on Tuesday night near Sally Port Gardens, with the soldier being airlifted to the hospital following the incident. A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. The suspect, who was wearing a ski mask and armed with two kitchen knives, reportedly pursued the soldier and launched a frenzied attack. Witnesses described hearing 'blood-curdling screams' and saw the attacker lick the blood off the blade. The motive behind the attack is still unclear, but Kent Police have not ruled out terrorism as a potential motive. Defence Secretary John Healey condemned the attack as 'shocking' and wished the soldier a swift recovery.
