VisitBrazilian President Lula Undergoes Successful Surgery in São Paulo to Prevent Further Bleeding
Dec 12, 2024, 05:29 PM
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, aged 79, underwent a successful surgical procedure on Thursday morning to complement a previous operation aimed at preventing further intracranial bleeding. The procedure, known as middle meningeal artery embolization, was performed at the Sírio-Libanês Hospital in São Paulo, where Lula has been hospitalized since Monday due to severe headaches. According to his medical team, led by cardiologist Roberto Kalil, the surgery was successful, and Lula is neurologically perfect, awake, and talking. Despite the recommendation for rest, Lula is capable of performing any type of work with full capacity. The president is expected to remain in the ICU until Saturday and might be discharged early next week. Lula's health episode stems from a fall he suffered in October at the Palácio da Alvorada, which resulted in a head injury requiring trepanation to drain an intracranial hematoma.
