VisitBrazil to Host 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup, First in South America
May 17, 2024, 06:00 AM
Brazil has been chosen to host the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup, marking the first time a South American nation will host the tournament. The decision was made during the 74th FIFA Congress in Bangkok, where FIFA's 211 members voted. Brazil's bid won over a joint submission from Belgium, Netherlands, and Germany, which received 78 votes out of a total of 207. The announcement was made by FIFA President Gianni Infantino. Brazil now has about three years to prepare for the event. The tournament will take place without Brazil's all-time leading scorer, Marta, who will retire from international football after this year's Olympics.
