VisitBrazil's Supreme Court Lifts Secrecy, Sends Coup Report Indicting Bolsonaro, Generals, and 36 Others to Prosecutor
Nov 26, 2024, 03:50 PM
Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Federal Court has sent the Federal Police's report on the attempted coup d'état to the Procuradoria-Geral da República (PGR), lifting the secrecy on the investigation. The report indicts former President Jair Bolsonaro, Generals Braga Netto and Ramos, and 34 others for crimes including coup d'état, violent abolition of the democratic rule of law, and criminal organization. The Federal Police identified six nuclei of operation in the alleged plot. While the report has been made public, the plea bargain of Mauro Cid, Bolsonaro's former aide, remains under seal. PGR's Deputy Attorney General Paulo Gonet will now evaluate the report to decide whether to file charges, dismiss the case, or request further investigation.
