VisitBrazil's Supreme Court Justice Moraes Denies Bolsonaro's Request to Attend Trump's Inauguration on January 20
Jan 15, 2025, 10:40 PM
Brazil's Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes has denied former President Jair Bolsonaro's request to travel to the United States to attend Donald Trump's inauguration on January 20. The decision follows a recommendation from the Prosecutor General's Office (PGR), which argued that Bolsonaro's trip would serve only private interests and not justify lifting the travel restriction. Bolsonaro's passport was seized by the Federal Police in February 2024 amid investigations into an alleged coup attempt to keep him in power. The former president, along with 39 others, was indicted in November 2024 for attempting a coup and violently abolishing the democratic rule of law. Bolsonaro's defense had requested the return of his passport for travel between January 17 and January 22, 2025, to attend Trump's inauguration.
