Dec 10, 2024, 09:30 AM
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, 79, underwent emergency brain surgery in the early hours of Tuesday, December 10, in São Paulo after experiencing severe headaches linked to a domestic accident on October 19. Lula was initially examined at the Sírio-Libanês Hospital's Brasília unit, where an MRI scan revealed an intracranial hemorrhage. He was then transferred to São Paulo for surgery. Medical authorities at the Sírio-Libanês Hospital stated that a craniotomy was performed to drain a hematoma, and the procedure was completed without complications. "He is in good health and being monitored in an ICU bed," according to the hospital's official statement. Lula is currently recovering in the intensive care unit and is expected to remain hospitalized until at least the end of the week. Government officials noted that it was crucial to address the bleeding promptly to prevent further health complications.
