VisitBrazil Plane Crash Preliminary Report Reveals De-Icing System Failure, Killing 62
Sep 7, 2024, 12:07 AM
A preliminary report on the crash of a Voepass ATR turboprop plane in Brazil last month, which killed all 62 people aboard, reveals that the pilots reported a failure in the aircraft's de-icing system. Investigators from Brazil's Center for Research and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (Cenipa) found that icing detectors were activated and cockpit audio indicated problems with the de-icing system. Lead investigator Paulo Fróes mentioned a significant buildup of ice but cautioned against drawing final conclusions on the cause of the crash. The crash, which occurred in August near Sao Paulo, represents the deadliest airline disaster in Brazil in nearly two decades.
