VisitBrazil Lifts Ban on Elon Musk's X After Platform Pays Fine, Complies with Court Orders
Oct 8, 2024, 08:39 PM
Elon Musk's social media platform X (formerly Twitter) has been reinstated in Brazil after complying with the country's Supreme Court demands. The platform had been banned for over a month since late August after refusing to appoint a legal representative and failing to comply with court orders to remove accounts accused of spreading disinformation. X paid pending fines totaling 28.6 million reais ($5.24 million), though initial reports indicated the payment was mistakenly sent to the wrong bank account. After fulfilling the requirements, Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes lifted the ban on October 8, 2024, allowing X to resume operations in one of its largest markets, with approximately 22 million users in Brazil.
