VisitBraves' Chris Sale Wins First Cy Young Award, Secures Pitching Triple Crown
Nov 20, 2024, 11:26 PM
Atlanta Braves left-hander Chris Sale, 35, has won the 2024 National League Cy Young Award, securing 26 of 30 first-place votes. This marks the first Cy Young Award of Sale's career after multiple top-five finishes in previous years, including second, third, fourth, fifth (twice), and sixth (twice) placements between 2013 and 2018. Sale's outstanding season included leading the league with 18 wins, topping the charts in strikeouts and ERA among qualifiers, and earning him the coveted pitching Triple Crown. Zack Wheeler of the Philadelphia Phillies finished second in the voting with four first-place votes, while rookie Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates placed third, receiving no first-place votes, one second-place vote, and 13 third-place votes. Sale's win is significant for the Braves as he becomes their first Cy Young Award recipient since Tom Glavine in 1998, contributing to the franchise's eighth Cy Young Award, second only to the Dodgers' twelve.
