VisitBody of Chenoa Nickerson, Gilbert Woman, Found After Grand Canyon Flash Flood
Aug 25, 2024, 06:28 PM
A search and rescue operation was conducted at the Grand Canyon National Park after a flash flood swept away 33-year-old Chenoa Nickerson, a Gilbert woman, on Thursday. The Arizona National Guard was deployed to assist in evacuating over 100 stranded hikers following the severe flooding in the Havasupai area. Despite extensive efforts, Nickerson's body was found on Sunday in the Colorado River, three days after she went missing. The flooding, which began around 1:30 p.m. local time, also led to the closure of the Havasupai reservation. Nickerson was with her husband when the floodwaters swept her away, though he was rescued by rafters.
