VisitBoar's Head Deli Meats Linked to 9 Deaths in Largest U.S. Listeria Outbreak Since 2011 Across 18 States
Aug 29, 2024, 09:20 PM
The United States is experiencing its largest listeria outbreak since 2011, linked to Boar's Head deli meats. The outbreak has resulted in nine deaths, including fatalities in New York, South Carolina, Florida, New Mexico, and Tennessee, and over 57 hospitalizations across 18 states. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed that the outbreak is connected to contaminated deli meats produced at a Boar's Head plant in Virginia. The plant has been found to have multiple violations, including mold, bugs, and unsanitary conditions. In response, Boar's Head has recalled over 7 million pounds of deli products. The CDC has issued warnings to avoid consuming the recalled products, particularly for those at higher risk, such as pregnant women, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals.
