Dec 8, 2024, 07:41 PM
As of December 2024, Bitcoin has emerged as the seventh largest global asset by market capitalization, valued at approximately $1.98 trillion. Public companies collectively hold 2.66% of the total Bitcoin supply, with MicroStrategy leading the pack by holding 402,100 BTC. Other significant holders include Marathon Digital with 34,959 BTC, Riot Platform with 11,425 BTC, Tesla Inc with 9,720 BTC, and Coinbase Global with 9,480 BTC. Notably, Coinbase is reported to hold 1.12 million BTC, valued at $112 billion, which accounts for 14.82% of all Bitcoin. Additionally, the U.S. government possesses 199,172 BTC acquired through seizures. The increasing preference among companies to hold Bitcoin instead of cash is contributing to rising demand and a decreasing circulating supply, which in turn drives up the cryptocurrency's price.
