Jun 13, 2024, 06:02 PM
President Joe Biden and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy have signed a landmark 10-year bilateral security agreement between the United States and Ukraine on Thursday. The agreement, signed during the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Italy, commits the U.S. to providing long-term support to Ukraine's defense against Russian aggression. The pact includes provisions for military assistance, such as the supply of Patriot air defense systems and F-16 fighter jets, as well as training and intelligence sharing. This agreement is seen as a significant step towards Ukraine's potential future membership in NATO, described as a NATO precursor by officials. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan highlighted the long-term commitment, and Zelenskyy called it the strongest agreement since Ukraine's independence. The G7 leaders also approved a $50 billion loan to support Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia.
