President Joe Biden announced he will award the Presidential Citizens Medal, the nation's second-highest civilian honor, to former Representative Liz Cheney and Representative Bennie Thompson among 20 honorees for their leadership in the congressional investigation into the January 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot. The ceremony is scheduled for Thursday at the White House. The award, created by President Richard Nixon in 1969, recognizes Americans who have performed exemplary deeds of service for their country or their fellow citizens.
