President Joe Biden plans to award the Presidential Citizens Medal, the nation's second-highest civilian honor, to Liz Cheney and Bennie Thompson on Thursday at the White House. They are among 20 recipients being recognized for their 'exemplary deeds of service for their country or their fellow citizens.' Cheney, a former Republican congresswoman, and Thompson, a Democratic congressman, served as vice chair and chair, respectively, of the House select committee that investigated the January 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot by supporters of then-President Donald Trump.
