VisitBiden Regrets July 21 Withdrawal From 2024 Race, Believes He Could Have Defeated Trump Despite Harris's Loss
Dec 28, 2024, 09:08 PM
President Joe Biden reportedly regrets his decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race on July 21, believing he could have defeated Donald Trump despite his poor performance in the June debate and low approval numbers. According to sources cited by The Washington Post and The Guardian, Biden and some of his aides have expressed this belief in recent private conversations. Biden stepped aside in July under pressure from Democrats, leading to Kamala Harris becoming the nominee. Despite her initial surge in enthusiasm and improved poll numbers, Harris lost to Trump by 2.2 million votes, with Trump securing 312 electoral votes to Harris's 226. Biden has been careful not to blame Harris for the loss, though he feels that the outcome could have been different had he remained in the race. Additionally, Biden reportedly regrets appointing Merrick Garland as Attorney General, feeling that Garland was too slow in prosecuting Trump and too aggressive in pursuing cases against his son, Hunter Biden.
