President Joe Biden announced Sunday that he has ordered the deployment of 500 additional active-duty troops with advanced technological assets to Western North Carolina to assist with response and recovery efforts following Hurricane Helene. This brings the total number of troops supporting the operation to 1,500, supplementing thousands of National Guardsmen and federal personnel already on the ground.
