The Biden administration has transferred 11 Yemeni prisoners from Guantanamo Bay to Oman, marking a significant reduction in the prison's population to just 15 detainees. This move, executed in the final days of the administration, aims to restart the lives of the prisoners, none of whom had been charged with crimes during their detention. The transfer is part of a broader effort to close the Guantanamo prison, which had 40 detainees when President Biden took office. The operation was carried out secretly by the Pentagon, and all transferred prisoners had been cleared for transfer through federal national-security review panels. This action leaves only six of the remaining detainees charged with or convicted of war crimes.
