VisitBiden Administration Reaches Plea Deals with 9/11 Plotters for Life Sentences, Avoiding Death Penalty
Jul 31, 2024, 11:17 PM
The Biden Administration has reached plea agreements with three men accused of plotting the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, including the alleged mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. The deals, confirmed by the U.S. Department of Defense and Susan Escallier, will allow Mohammed and his co-defendants, Walid Bin Attash and Mustafa al Hawsawi, to avoid the death penalty in exchange for life sentences. The plea agreements come after decades of legal proceedings and are expected to be finalized at the military commission at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, as soon as next week. The exact terms of the agreements have not been disclosed publicly.
