VisitBiden Administration Allocates $1.7 Billion to Convert Auto Plants to EV Factories in Eight Swing States
Jul 11, 2024, 11:30 AM
The Biden administration has announced a $1.7 billion program to support the conversion of shuttered and at-risk auto manufacturing and assembly facilities into electric vehicle (EV) factories. This initiative aims to bolster EV production across eight states, including Pennsylvania, with a particular focus on swing states. The program includes $334 million in grant money specifically allocated to retool Stellantis' idled Belvidere Assembly Plant. The Energy Department is overseeing the distribution of these funds to 11 auto factories, including unionized auto plants, to facilitate the production of clean vehicles and their components.
