VisitBengaluru Court Orders FIR Against Nirmala Sitharaman and BJP Chief JP Nadda Over Electoral Bond Extortion
Sep 28, 2024, 10:00 AM
A Bengaluru court has ordered the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President JP Nadda over allegations of extortion through electoral bonds. The complaint was filed by Adarsh Iyer of Janadhikar Sangharsh Parishad (JSP), who accused Sitharaman of misusing the electoral bond scheme for extortion. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has called for Sitharaman's resignation following the court's directive. TMC leader Kunal Ghosh described the development as a "very serious" matter, alleging misuse of central agencies by the Centre. Former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy questioned the calls for resignation, asking, "Did the electoral bond money go to her personal account, why should she resign?"
