VisitBears Fire Matt Eberflus After Thanksgiving Loss; Thomas Brown Named Interim Coach
Nov 29, 2024, 05:23 PM
Matt Eberflus has been fired as the head coach of the Chicago Bears following the team's loss to the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving Day. Offensive coordinator Thomas Brown has been named as the interim head coach. This marks the first time in the Bears' 100-plus year history that they have fired a head coach during the season. Eberflus had a record of 14–32, with a .304 career win percentage, over two seasons with the team. Notably, he had a 5–17 record in games decided by seven points or fewer, a .227 win percentage in close games. The decision comes after a time-management debacle in the Thanksgiving Day game, which resulted in another painful loss for the Bears. Bears management was infuriated after the game, and Eberflus' lack of accountability contributed to the dismissal. Eberflus held a press conference earlier in the day before being dismissed.
