VisitBangladesh Seeks $5 Billion; U.S. and USAID Commit $202 Million in Aid
Sep 15, 2024, 10:52 AM
Bangladesh is seeking $5 billion in emergency funds from international lenders to stabilize its economy. The United States has committed to supporting Bangladesh's economic growth by providing an additional $202 million in aid. This aid aims to promote inclusive economic growth, institution building, and development. The deal was signed after Bangladesh's interim government, led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, made an appeal for financial assistance. A high-level U.S. delegation met with Yunus to affirm the U.S. commitment to fostering economic growth in Bangladesh. USAID and Bangladesh signed a $202.25 million grant agreement to boost governance. Additionally, the U.S. updated its travel advisory for Bangladesh, moving it from level 4 to level 3. Financial Times reported that the U.S. plans talks on the economy with Yunus.
