VisitBallot Drop Boxes in Vancouver and Portland Set on Fire, Destroying Hundreds of Ballots
Oct 28, 2024, 05:12 PM
Early Monday morning, shortly after 4 a.m., ballot drop boxes in both Vancouver, Washington, and Portland, Oregon, were set on fire in apparent arson attacks. The Clark County Elections ballot drop box at the Fisher's Landing Transit Center in Vancouver was lit on fire, destroying hundreds of ballots. The last pickup from the box was at 11 a.m. on Saturday, so ballots deposited after that time may have been affected. Voters who used that drop box after Saturday morning are urged to contact the Clark County Election Auditor's Office immediately to obtain a new ballot. The incident in Vancouver could potentially impact Washington's 3rd Congressional District, one of the most competitive races in the country. In Portland, an incendiary device was placed inside a ballot box early Monday morning, causing a fire that damaged at least three ballots. Local police and the FBI are investigating both incidents.
