VisitAustralia to Establish Independent $251M Centre for Disease Control by January 2026
Oct 29, 2024, 11:28 PM
The Australian government has announced the establishment of an independent Australian Centre for Disease Control (CDC) to better coordinate responses to disease outbreaks. Health Minister Mark Butler revealed that the CDC, which will be set up in Canberra by January 2026, comes in response to a bombshell report highlighting the grossly inadequate aspects of Australia's pandemic response. The new centre, with a budget of $251 million, aims to address the gaps identified during the COVID-19 pandemic and improve future public health responses.
