VisitAustralia Sends 49 Retired M1A1 Tanks to Ukraine as It Receives New M1A2 Models
Oct 16, 2024, 01:33 PM
Australia will send 49 M1A1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine as part of a $245 million military aid package, according to Defense Industry Minister Pat Conroy. The soon-to-be-retired tanks, replaced by the arrival of 75 newer M1A2 models, will enhance the Ukrainian Armed Forces' firepower and mobility. "These tanks will provide the Ukrainian Armed Forces with greater firepower and mobility," said Conroy. The move comes more than a year after Ukraine first expressed interest in the M1A1 tanks. The Ukrainian ambassador has welcomed the decision, which will be announced during a NATO defense ministers' meeting.
