VisitAustralia's New Visa Pathway for Gaza Refugees with Hamas Sympathy Sparks Controversy
Aug 11, 2024, 10:27 PM
Australia's top spy, ASIO boss Mike Burgess, has stated that Palestinians who express rhetorical support for Hamas will not necessarily be blocked from entering Australia. This comes as the federal government prepares to announce a new visa pathway to assist refugees fleeing the war in Gaza. The decision has sparked controversy, with Shadow Home Affairs Minister James Paterson describing the policy as 'deeply disturbing' and calling for measures to ensure Hamas supporters are not admitted into the country. Independent Senator Jacqui Lambie has also voiced opposition, suggesting that Palestinians expressing sympathy for Hamas should be sent back home.
