VisitAuburn Climbs to No. 1 in AP Men's Basketball Poll, Iowa State Reaches Historic No. 2
Jan 13, 2025, 06:06 PM
Auburn has ascended to the No. 1 position in the latest Associated Press men's basketball poll, marking its second time at the top in program history. The Tigers, led by coach Bruce Pearl, claimed 60 out of 62 first-place votes following Tennessee's first loss of the season to Florida. Auburn's only loss this season was to Duke in early December, and they have since won eight consecutive games. However, the team faces uncertainty with star forward Johni Broome sidelined due to an ankle injury sustained in a recent win over South Carolina. The Southeastern Conference (SEC) continues to dominate the rankings, with nine teams featured in the AP Top 25, including three in the top five and five in the top ten. Iowa State achieved its highest ranking ever at No. 2, followed by Duke, Alabama, and Florida. Georgia also entered the rankings for the first time since 2011, joining the poll at No. 23 after defeating ranked opponents Kentucky and Oklahoma.
