VisitAssam, Kerala, and West Bengal Police Dismantle ABT Terror Module Targeting Siliguri Corridor
Dec 22, 2024, 09:40 AM
In a coordinated effort, law enforcement agencies across Assam, Kerala, and West Bengal have dismantled a terror module linked to the Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), an affiliate of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS). The Assam Police's Special Task Force (STF) arrested eight members of the ABT, including a Bangladeshi national, in a pan-India operation. The arrests were made in connection with a plot to target the Siliguri Corridor, also known as Chicken's Neck, a strategic area connecting India's northeastern states. The operation also involved the arrest of Javed Munshi, a suspected member of the banned Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen outfit from Kashmir, in West Bengal's Canning area. Munshi, who was apprehended in a joint operation by Jammu and Kashmir Police and West Bengal STF, was granted transit remand until December 31. The arrests highlight ongoing efforts to thwart terrorist activities aimed at destabilizing the region.
