VisitAshton Jeanty Ends Season with 2,601 Yards, Falls 27 Yards Short of Barry Sanders' NCAA Rushing Record
Jan 1, 2025, 03:36 AM
Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty concluded an extraordinary season, finishing with 2,601 rushing yards, the second-most in NCAA single-season history. Jeanty fell 27 yards short of surpassing Barry Sanders' 36-year-old record of 2,628 yards, which remains the all-time mark. Despite his efforts, Jeanty was held to 104 yards on 30 carries, with two fumbles, in Boise State's 31-14 loss to Penn State in the Fiesta Bowl quarterfinal, a game where Penn State's defense, ranked fourth in total yards allowed, limited his impact. Jeanty, a Heisman Trophy runner-up, achieved over 100 rushing yards in all 14 games this season, a first in NCAA history, and scored 30 total touchdowns. Barry Sanders, who sent Jeanty a pregame message of encouragement, set his record in 11 games, excluding bowl statistics. Jeanty is expected to declare for the NFL Draft, capping a historic college career.
