VisitArmed Man Arrested Near Trump Rally; Sheriff Suggests Assassination Attempt
Oct 13, 2024, 08:39 PM
A man named Vem Miller was arrested by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department near a rally for former President Donald Trump in Coachella Valley, California, on Saturday. Miller, 49, a resident of Las Vegas, was found in possession of a shotgun, a loaded handgun, and a high-capacity magazine, as well as fake VIP and press passes. He was arrested at a checkpoint about a quarter-mile from the rally venue. Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco stated, "We probably stopped another assassination attempt," suggesting the arrest may have prevented an attempt on Trump's life. However, sources close to the Trump campaign indicated there was no assassination attempt, and the FBI stated they do not believe Miller intended to harm the former president. Miller was released on $5,000 bail and is scheduled to appear at the Indio Larson Justice Center on January 2. The incident did not impact the safety of Trump or the proceedings of the rally, which continued without incident.
