VisitArizona Supreme Court Orders Unsealing of Senate Candidate Ruben Gallego's Divorce Records
Oct 17, 2024, 12:36 AM
On Wednesday night, the Arizona Supreme Court rejected the request by Democratic Senate candidate Ruben Gallego and his ex-wife, Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, to keep their divorce records sealed. The court's decision means that the documents are set to be unsealed on Thursday, as previously ordered by the appeals court. The couple had argued that sealing the records was necessary to protect their son's privacy, with Gallego stating, "We are doing this because we are trying to protect our son. We know that if she [Lake] gets any information about our son, she will release it." The legal battle began after the Washington Free Beacon filed a lawsuit seeking to unseal the records. Reports indicate that Gallego and his campaign have spent close to $1 million in efforts to keep the documents private. Gallego is running against Republican candidate Kari Lake for the Arizona Senate seat.
