French swimmer Léon Marchand, representing Arizona State University, has made history at the Paris 2024 Olympics by winning two gold medals in a single night, setting new Olympic records in both events. Marchand first triumphed in the men's 200m butterfly with a time of 1:51.21, coming from behind to defeat world record holder Kristof Milak. He then went on to win the men's 200m breaststroke with a time of 2:05.85, becoming the first swimmer since 1976 to win two individual golds in one day. Marchand, who also won gold in the 400m individual medley earlier in the Games, has now secured three gold medals, cementing his status as a dominant force in swimming. Ilya Kharun, Marchand's teammate, won bronze in the 200m butterfly. Michael Phelps, whose records Marchand broke, praised the French swimmer's remarkable achievements.
