VisitArgentine Senate Expels Senator Kueider Over $211,000 Undeclared Cash Incident in Paraguay
Dec 12, 2024, 07:37 PM
The Argentine Senate has expelled Senator Edgardo Kueider following his arrest in Paraguay on December 4 for attempting to cross the border with $211,000 in undeclared cash. The vote, which required a two-thirds majority, resulted in 61 senators in favor of his expulsion, with six against and one abstention. Kueider, a Peronist senator from Entre Ríos, had previously aligned with the ruling party, La Libertad Avanza, after breaking away from the Peronist bloc. His seat will now be occupied by Stefanía Cora, a Peronist leader from La Cámpora. The Senate session also saw discussions on corruption and the integrity of the legislative body, with various senators from different political factions expressing their views on the matter. Judge Sandra Arroyo Salgado, who is investigating Kueider for illicit enrichment, had called for his lawlessness and arrest, and ordered raids by the Gendarmerie on properties linked to Kueider.
