VisitWHO Approves Abbott's Alinity m Mpox Test for Emergency Use Amid Rising African Outbreaks
Oct 3, 2024, 10:03 PM
The World Health Organization (WHO) has approved the first mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) diagnostic test for emergency use under its Emergency Use Listing (EUL) procedure. The test, called the Alinity m MPXV assay, is manufactured by Abbott Molecular. This approval aims to boost global access to mpox testing, particularly in the face of rising outbreaks in Africa, including concerns over an expanding outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The WHO's decision is a crucial step in enhancing global health responses to the disease and preventing an mpox pandemic.
