Apple has agreed to pay $95 million in cash to settle a proposed class-action lawsuit alleging that its voice-activated Siri assistant violated users' privacy by unintentionally recording private conversations and sharing the data with third parties, including advertisers. As part of the settlement, Apple will delete private conversations that were inadvertently recorded by Siri and revise its privacy disclosures and practices. Affected users may receive up to $20 per Siri-enabled device. The lawsuit claims that Siri activated without intentional prompts, leading to the recording of private discussions, which were then potentially overheard by human employees and resulted in targeted advertising.
