VisitApple, Google Wallets Introduce California Driver’s Licenses in MDL Pilot Program
Sep 19, 2024, 06:36 PM
Apple has announced that California residents can now add their driver's licenses and state IDs to Apple Wallet on their iPhones and Apple Watches. This new feature is part of the California DMV's mobile driver's license (MDL) pilot program, which aims to securely store and present digital IDs. California is the seventh U.S. state to adopt this technology, and Apple plans to expand support to Montana, New Mexico, and West Virginia soon. Additionally, the feature will be available internationally, starting with Japan. The rollout also includes support for presenting digital IDs at select locations, such as San Francisco International Airport (SFO). Google Wallets also support California driver's licenses. The pilot program aims to include 1.5M participants.
