VisitAndy Murray Withdraws from Wimbledon Singles in Final Appearance, to Play Doubles with Brother Jamie
Jul 2, 2024, 09:21 AM
Andy Murray has withdrawn from the singles competition at Wimbledon 2024 due to insufficient recovery from recent back surgery for a spinal cyst. This decision marks his final appearance at the Championships. Despite the setback, Murray will still compete in the doubles tournament alongside his brother, Jamie Murray. The announcement confirms that Murray's last singles match at Wimbledon was a five-set thriller against Stefanos Tsitsipas. Murray, a two-time Wimbledon singles champion, had hoped to participate but concluded he was not physically capable of competing in the singles draw. He will be replaced by Lucky Loser David Goffin in the singles competition. Murray's career highlights include twice winning the Wimbledon singles title and ending the 77-year wait for a British male champion.
