AMD Launches MI325X GPU and 192-Core EPYC 'Turin' CPUs with Zen 5 to Challenge Nvidia

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has unveiled a new lineup of AI-focused processors and graphics chips at its 'Advancing AI 2024' event in San Francisco on October 10, 2024. CEO Lisa Su introduced the company's latest MI325X GPU, designed to compete directly with Nvidia's H100 data center GPUs, and announced the upcoming MI350 series, expected to be available in the second half of 2025. The MI325X will enter production this quarter, with partners like Super Micro and Dell planning to ship AI servers equipped with the new GPUs in Q1 2025. AMD also revealed its 5th Generation EPYC server processors, code-named 'Turin', built on the Zen 5 architecture and offering up to 192 processor cores and a 37% speed gain for advanced AI data crunching. The new EPYC CPUs feature up to 768 threads per server and a 500W thermal design power (TDP). AMD emphasized its open-source ROCm software platform for AI applications. By integrating these advancements, AMD aims to challenge Nvidia's dominance in the AI and data center markets by providing high-performance and efficient computing solutions.
