VisitAmazon Shareholders Propose 5% Bitcoin Treasury Allocation to Hedge Inflation
Dec 8, 2024, 10:18 PM
Amazon shareholders, led by the National Center for Public Policy Research, have submitted a proposal urging the company to consider adopting Bitcoin as a treasury reserve asset. The proposal suggests that Amazon allocate at least 5% of its $88 billion in cash assets into Bitcoin, citing the need to protect against inflation, which is currently at 4.95% CPI but might be higher in reality. This move follows similar discussions at Microsoft, where shareholders are set to vote on adding Bitcoin to its balance sheet on December 10, influenced by MicroStrategy CEO Michael Saylor's presentation suggesting that Microsoft could add almost $5 trillion to its market cap by going all-in on Bitcoin. The proposal will be discussed at Amazon's April 2025 shareholder meeting.
