VisitAmazon's Largest Outside Investment: $8 Billion in Anthropic, AWS Becomes Cloud Partner
Nov 22, 2024, 02:47 PM
Amazon has announced an additional $4 billion investment in Anthropic, an artificial intelligence startup founded by ex-OpenAI executives. This brings Amazon's total investment in Anthropic to $8 billion, marking the largest outside investment in Amazon's history, while maintaining its position as a minority investor without a seat on the company's board. As part of the agreement, Anthropic will make Amazon Web Services (AWS) its primary cloud and training partner and will use AWS Trainium and Inferentia chips to train and deploy its AI models, including the Claude AI model, which competes with OpenAI's ChatGPT. The partnership also involves collaboration with Amazon's Annapurna Labs to develop new Trainium accelerators, aiming to enhance AWS hardware and software for scalable and efficient AI development.
