Amazon Reports 3% Carbon Footprint Reduction, Achieves 100% Renewable Energy Goal 7 Years Early

Amazon announced a 3% reduction in its carbon footprint for 2023, marking the second consecutive year of declining emissions. The company attributed this decrease to reduced spending on new warehouses and cloud-computing data centers. Despite this progress, Amazon's emissions remain 20 million metric tons higher than in 2019. Additionally, Amazon achieved its goal of matching 100% of its electricity consumption with renewable energy seven years ahead of its 2030 target. This milestone includes all global operations, such as data centers, corporate buildings, grocery stores, and fulfillment centers. The company emphasized its commitment to the Climate Pledge and addressed AI-driven climate challenges.
