VisitAmazon Labor Union Affiliates with 1.3 Million-Member Teamsters in 98.3% Vote
Jun 18, 2024, 01:12 PM
Amazon Labor Union members have voted to affiliate with the 1.3 million-member International Brotherhood of Teamsters by a near unanimous 98.3 percent in favor. This partnership brings renewed representation and resources to the union, which aims to improve working conditions and boost bargaining power at Amazon. The vote, which took place at the JFK8 Amazon fulfillment center in New York on Tuesday, saw 878 ballots cast, with 829 votes in favor and 14 against. ALU President Christian Smalls noted that the Teamsters have allocated $8 million for organizing efforts. Workers estimate the workforce has dipped to between 5,000 & 6,000 workers during the off-peak season. This move is seen as a significant step in the ongoing unionization efforts at the e-commerce giant.
