Amazon-Backed AI Startup Anthropic in Talks to Raise $2 Billion at $60 Billion Valuation

Artificial intelligence startup Anthropic is in advanced talks to raise $2 billion in a funding round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners that would value the company at $60 billion, according to reports from The Wall Street Journal. This represents an increase from its $18 billion valuation last year. Amazon, which has invested $8 billion in Anthropic since 2023, is a close partner and is expected to convert its previous investments as part of the deal. The new valuation would position Anthropic as the fifth most valuable U.S. startup, trailing only SpaceX, OpenAI, Stripe, and Databricks.
