VisitAlonso's Historic 9th-Inning Homer Sends Mets Past Brewers to NLDS vs. Phillies
Oct 4, 2024, 01:54 AM
The New York Mets advanced to the National League Division Series after a dramatic 4-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 3 of the NL Wild Card Series, winning the series 2-1. Playing at Milwaukee's American Family Field, the Mets were trailing 2-0 and down to their final outs when slumping first baseman Pete Alonso hit a go-ahead three-run home run off Brewers closer Devin Williams in the ninth inning. It marked the first time in MLB history that a player has hit a go-ahead home run while trailing in the ninth inning or later of a winner-take-all postseason game. The Brewers, who were two outs from advancing, were eliminated as the Mets added an insurance run to seal the comeback. The Mets will face the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLDS.
