VisitAlonso's 9th-Inning Homer Off Williams Eliminates Brewers; Mets Win 4-2, Face Phillies
Oct 4, 2024, 01:49 AM
Trailing 2-0 in the ninth inning after the Milwaukee Brewers took the lead with back-to-back homers in the seventh, the New York Mets staged a dramatic comeback to defeat the Brewers 4-2 at American Family Field, ending Milwaukee's season and advancing to the NLDS against the Philadelphia Phillies. With the Brewers just two outs away from advancing, Pete Alonso hit an opposite-field, go-ahead three-run home run off closer Devin Williams, marking only the second home run Williams had allowed all year and the first opposite-field homer he's allowed to a right-handed hitter in his MLB career. The Mets added an insurance run when Starling Marte drove in another, extending the lead to 4-2. Edwin Díaz earned the win, and David Peterson secured the save.
